School of the Arts Audition Prep
We offer School of the Arts audition preparation
School of the Arts offers students creative and artistic opportunities in the areas of Communication Arts, Dance, Band, Piano/Keyboard, Orchestral Strings, Vocal, Theatre and Visual Arts. The school’s curriculum challenges students to achieve a high standard of artistic professionalism and academic excellence.
In order to be eligible for admission, students must submit an application to the Palm Beach County School District’s Department of Choice Programs AND successfully audition for one of the school’s art programs.
Audition application deadlines are in December. Auditions take place January and February. We can help your child have the best audition possible by preparing them with all the tools needed with plenty of time to practice the tools and feel comfortable. Starting the summer before their 5th grade or 8th grade year is ideal. Participating in the Masterclasses is a great way to get those nerves out and have an awesome audition.
The Audition Process
Bak Vocal
Students will need to prepare a memorized classical-style solo that showcases their vocal ability. They will be evaluated on solo pitch and rhythmic accuracy, tone quality, expressiveness, and musical effect. Additionally, students will sing along with a provided recording of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” at the audition. The audition will also include vocalization that demonstrates control, range, and technique in their singing. We’re here to help throughout the entire process, from selecting the perfect song to conducting mock auditions. Our team is dedicated to ensuring your child feels prepared, confident, and ready to have a successful audition.

Dreyfoos Vocal
Students will need to prepare a memorized classical-style solo that showcases their vocal ability. They will be evaluated on solo pitch and rhythmic accuracy, tone quality, expressiveness, and musical effect. In addition, they will be assessed on aural memory by singing a series of notes played on the piano. Furthermore, they will be expected to demonstrate their sight-reading skills and participate in an interview.
Bak Theatre
There is no specific preparation required for the Theatre Audition; the audition itself is designed as a theatre workshop. During this workshop, students will engage in acting exercises where they will be paired with one or two other students for audition assignments. Each student will be evaluated individually based on their own work.
During the audition, students will be provided with a brief script and asked to read it, making character choices. Alternatively, they may choose to sing a short provided section of a Broadway-style musical song. Students will be assessed on their ability to develop a character vocally and physically through song in a manner that aligns with the song.
